What is a therapy session?
A therapy session is a 45-minute private and supportive conversation with a trained therapist, where you can share your thoughts, feelings, and challenges without judgment. It’s a space to explore what’s on your mind, gain new perspectives, and develop strategies to cope with life’s difficulties.
Why We Don’t Accept Insurance for Couples Therapy:
We do not accept insurance for couples therapy. While this may feel inconvenient at first, there are important reasons why many clients prefer to pay privately for this type of work.
If you use insurance for couples or family therapy, the insurance company requires one person to be identified as the “patient” with a mental health diagnosis. This diagnosis becomes part of their permanent health record. Each session must then be documented around that person’s symptoms and progress, which can make the therapy feel unbalanced since the couple or family is not treated equally in the paperwork.
Insurance also often limits coverage for relationship-focused concerns, may restrict the number of sessions allowed, and requires access to sensitive clinical notes. For many people, this loss of privacy and flexibility can feel restrictive.
By paying out of pocket, you and your partner or family have greater freedom. Therapy can focus fully on your shared goals rather than on a diagnosis, your privacy is protected, and the work can move at a pace that makes sense for you—not the insurance company.
