Alexandria Brooks, Counseling Intern
Whether you know exactly what you want out of counseling or it’s your first time and don’t know where to begin, Alexandria will attune her approach to fit your unique needs, values, and goals.
One of Alexandria’s priorities is creating a therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable to be your raw, unfiltered self. Difficult, uncomfortable, and taboo topics are welcome. She will not judge for what you think, feel, or struggle with; instead, you will be heard and met with respect, curiosity, and understanding. Clients often appreciate her calming demeanor, genuine empathy, thought-provoking questions, empowering attitude, and creativity.
Alexandria is passionate about helping people of all ages navigate a wide range of concerns, from life transitions and relationship difficulties to mental health, behavioral concerns, trauma, grief, and questions of meaning. She is particularly interested in working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, anxiety, and/or depression; displaced and/or minoritized people; couples; and children. She approaches therapy with cultural humility, actively striving to be informed so that clients aren’t burdened with educating her.
Life is hard, but its challenges don’t have to keep you from living the life you want. Alexandria’s hope is for clients to gain meaningful insights and practical skills that enable them to continue the therapeutic work independently. To do this, she pulls from various evidence-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), play therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Relational-Cultural Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
If you or your child might be a good fit, please don’t hesitate to schedule a session with Alexandria.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Alexandria is pursuing a master’s in an accredited clinical mental health counseling program (graduating August 2027). Outside the therapy room, she enjoys a whole slew of things, including singing, DIY projects, audiobooks, skiing, game nights, and building LEGO sets.
Alexandria is a clinical mental health counseling intern at Mesa Family Therapy, practicing under the supervision of Avril Maloney-Mcalmont, LCSW.
