Avril Maloney-Mcalmont, LCSW
Avril immigrated from Barbados to the New York in 1993. Avril received her Bachelor of Social Work from York College in Queens, New York and her Master of Social Work from Adelphi University, also in New York. She has been a licensed behavioral health professional since 2010.
Avril has also worked in community mental health, serving adults and children facing depression, anxiety, substance use, psychosis, PTSD, ADHD, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and more.
Since therapy is not a one size fits all, she uses a variety of models, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and mindfulness strategies which allows her to tailor the treatment to her clients leading to healthier coping strategies.
Avril maintains a non-judgmental, warm, accepting space where clients feel a sense of belonging, empathy and empowerment. She genuinely cares for her clients and validates all their efforts.
Avril relocated to Arizona from New York in September 2025. Outside of therapy, Avril enjoys spending time with her husband, traveling to Barbados to participate in her family reunion, playing scrabble, monopoly, reading and relaxing with TV Shows from the 80s. These simple pleasures has enhanced her desire to work with children, adults and families to develop healthier communication patterns and coping strategies to manage challenges.
Couples counseling and family therapy is a self-pay service only.
