Kate
Kate is an Associate Clinical Social Worker (LMSW) who specializes in helping those ages 12+ navigate various concerns. Kate’s work centers on creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and empowering as she helps clients focus on what matters most to them. Her clients seek understanding, self-awareness, and meaningful progress toward healing. To fully show up for her clients, Kate brings her authentic self to each session. She finds exploring identity with teenagers and women especially meaningful.
Kate earned her Bachelor of Science in Communications from Arizona State University. She originally came from an architectural and nautical design background, building a career that fit well with her lifestyle as a military spouse traveling around the United States for nearly 20 years.
She found herself more curious about her coworkers’ feelings, communication styles, and office dynamics and felt neutral about the design work itself. After navigating personal loss and challenging family situations with curiosity and resilience, Kate knew a more rewarding career was waiting for her. Inspired by her own therapist and mentors, she pursued her Master of Social Work with a clinical focus from Boston University in August 2020. Kate is proud of her social work background and is now passionate about her career where she has the privilege of engaging with her community every day.
Kate interned in public and charter schools, working individually and in groups with children in grades K-12. She enjoyed teaching social-emotional skills in classrooms and especially valued her time working with teenagers at a high school wellness center. Kate has also worked in community mental health, serving adults and children facing depression, anxiety, OCD, substance use, psychosis, PTSD, social anxiety, grief, ADHD, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and more.
Kate draws from evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). These frameworks help clients build insight, increase self-awareness, and develop practical tools to navigate challenges with confidence and independence. Her therapeutic process involves exploring each client’s unique challenges, developing personalized goals, and building a customized set of coping skills. She views clients as the experts in their own lives and believes therapy is collaborative, and sometimes even fun!
Outside of work, you’ll find Kate browsing the cooking section of a bookstore or library, baking desserts, or feeding her sourdough starter. She enjoys soaking up sunshine whenever she can and spending time with her family and golden retriever, Goldie. Basketball is her favorite sport to watch, and she never turns off a Suns game, win or lose!
